If you are so tight on the budget then you can also travel to places that offer heavy discounts such as Jaipur, Udaipur, and Jaisalmer.  Especially if you want to do activities in the early mornings or evenings. Plus, the cooler evenings still offer beautiful desert landscapes and a chance to explore the architecture.
